Share Your Buddy Check Stories

American Legion Resolution No. 18 calls for Buddy Checks to be conducted twice a year – Legion birthday and Veterans Day – but posts can conduct them at any time throughout the year.

Buddy Checks serve as a way to reach out to members and former members who may need help. Your phone call may identify members’ needs for financial assistance, transportation, service officer help and visitation.

“I did not realize that several of our members had situations in their lives that required someone to listen, care or just to feel that someone had their back,” said Mike Craddy, American Legion Post 101 commander in Somers, Conn., after conducting a Buddy Check last November.

We want to hear more. Share your Buddy Check stories by posting them on www.legiontown.org. We’ll highlight some of your efforts via American Legion media.
