“SEAL Team” will return to Paramount+ for its seventh season. It’s good news for the show’s devoted fans and not really a huge surprise, even if the producers left everyone hanging for a few weeks after the drama that dominated the end of season six.
When we left Jason Hayes and Bravo Team in the season six finale, they’d returned home from their mission to Syria but not in time to attend Clay Spenser’s funeral. Jason (David Boreanaz) had to prepare himself to receive the Navy Cross for saving Clay’s life, only to have Clay gunned down by an idiot security guard.
During his speech at the ceremony, Jason revealed that he’d been struggling with a traumatic brain injury, and the brass freaked out. As our favorite operator was being called on the carpet after the ceremony, his entire team and dozens of other operators filed in to declare their own undisclosed injuries and post-traumatic stress.
The episode was a powerful statement about the trials that special operators face during their service and the lack of support they receive from the Defense Department. If “SEAL Team” had ended on that note, it would have been a satisfying end to one of the most popular military shows in television history. Fortunately for the show’s fans, the team behind the series believe they have a few more stories to tell.
Over here in the real world, we know that Clay was killed off because Max Thieriot, the actor who played the popular character, left the series to star in his own CBS series “Fire Country.” That show is a hit, so Thieriot and the series didn’t kill off Clay for nothing.
We’d expect to see “SEAL Team” return to Paramount+ this fall. We’ll have updates as they become available.
