American Legion Oratorical Contest Set for January 14th

Post 304 will be holding a first level American Legion Oratorical Contest on Saturday, January 14th at 10:30 AM.  The Oratorical Program was developed to instill a better knowledge and appreciation of the U.S. Constitution in high school students.  Other objectives include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly, and the preparation for the acceptance of the duties, responsibilities, rights and privileges of American citizenship.

The winner of the Post 304 contest will take home a $350 cash prize and move on to the next level, which is the 5th District Contest, being held Sunday, February 5th, at 2 PM, at Post 29 in Marietta. The address is 921 Gresham Ave, Marietta GA.  The next level is the Area contest, and this year Post 304 is hosting the Area 4 Contest, on Saturday February 11th, at 11 AM at our Post 304 in Acworth !  The Area 4 Contest is made up of the winners of the 4th, 5th, and 7th Districts, which is basically northwest Georgia.  There are 4 American Legion Areas in Georgia, and the 4 winners will compete March 5th for the Department (State) title and the opportunity to compete in the National Competition, where the top prize is a $25,000 scholarship!

Everyone is invited to attend or volunteer for our Post events; for more information contact Jake Cave, Oratorical Chair for Post 304, at jacave08@gmail.com or 404-432-6598.
