Acworth Polar Plunge To Support Special Olympics February 24th

It is that time of year to fundraise for the Special Olympics of Georgia. The City of Acworth Police Department hosts the “Polar Plunge” yearly to raise money for athletes to attend the Special Olympics. The City of Acworth Police Department raised over $20,000 last year with the assistance of everyone’s help! Officer Anthony Trapani and K-9 Jogi raised $10,031 last year with all proceeds going to the Special Olympics. In June of 2023, K-9 Jogi experienced medical concerns which caused him to medically retire. K-9 Jogi is enjoying his retirement being a good boy and a house pet.

In October of 2023, the City of Acworth Police Department was graciously donated funds to acquire a new furry K-9. The funding of this K-9 was provided by Regina Robuck. In honor of the Robuck family, the new addition to the City of Acworth Police Department named the K-9 Robuck. K-9 Robuck just graduated from training from Southern Coast K-9 on November 10, 2023. K-9 Robuck and Officer Trapani are certified through the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association for narcotic detection, criminal apprehension, building searches, area searches, article searches as well as tracking.

We are requesting any amount of donation in order to assist these athletes pursue their dreams in participating in the Special Olympics. The funding that is acquired provides these athletes the chance to attend the Special Olympics without enduring the financial burden that comes with it.

Any amount donated is greatly appreciated by K-9 Robuck, I, and each one of the athletes that will be attending. The donation is tax deductible. As a 501(C)(3) private, non-profit organization, SOGA relies on donations from individuals, corporates, foundations, and civic groups. Contributes to Special Olympics Georgia are tax deductible as allowed by law.

Anyone is welcome to participate, and participants are asked collect pledges from friends and family in exchange for the opportunity to jump into icy waters of Lake Acworth in the middle of winter. Participants (teams and individuals) who collect pledges from friends and family totaling at least $50 secure their plunging spot.  All proceeds raised go to help provide 17,429 Special Olympics Georgia athletes free year-round sports training.

The Polar Plunge supports and spreads awareness for Special Olympics Georgia athletes and is the largest fundraising effort benefiting Special Olympics. The Polar Plunge is an official Law Enforcement Torch Run event.
