The Ron Asby North Cobb American Legion Post 304 was well represented at various local Memorial Day events including the Marietta National Cemetery, Acworth Patriot’s Point and Kennesaw Cemetery. Photos from the various events are below.
In Acworth, the ceremony to honor those who have given their lives in service to our country was held on Saturday, May 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Veterans Memorial at Patriots Point. The keynote speaker was Donna C. Rowe, US Army Nurse Corps 1964-1969. Donna entered the US Army in 1964 through the Student Nurse Corps Program (ROTC) and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in February 1966. Donna had several stateside assignments before serving in Vietnam from 1968 -1969 at the 3rd Field Hospital, Saigon (Head Nurse, Emergency Room/Triage Area). She was promoted to Captain June 1968. Donna was the first woman inductee to the Georgia Military Veterans “Hall of Fame” in 2016.
Veterans and current servicemen, including members of Post 304, paid tribute to brave men and women who have fought and died for our nation. Engraved pavers dedicated to those who have served in our armed forces that have been purchased since the previous Veterans Day were presented at the event.
Thanks to Chuck, Tom and Rusty for representing the Post’s Color Guard, and Chaplain Michael Smith for the invocation prayer.
Also attending and participating to honor veterans were Acworth Mayor Tommy Allegood, and State Representative and former US Army Captain Ed Setzler.
The Ron Asby North Cobb American Legion Post 304 would like to thank Mayor Allegood, and Parks & rec staff member Jeff Chase, for organizing the event.
