Any volunteer organization relies on – well – its volunteers to keep everything operational. Like every other American Legion Post, the Ron Asby North Cobb American Legion Post 304 is dependent on its volunteers to make things work.
Finding time to step up can sometimes be challenging, but it’s something we all need to do to make sure our Post remains open and growing. There are so many different ways each memeber can help – from working in the kitchen or helping deliver food, cleaning and upkeep, coming up with new programs or showing up at events to help out. Honestly, even just coming to the Post to have dinner or a drink is participating and helping the post remain open. Post 304 regularly needs duty officers, cooks and others who are willing to donate perhaps one evening a month for a few hours.
Oftentimes, members are overheard saying “Well, WE should do this” or “WE should do that,” in making changes, coming up with new programs and ideas, and so on. But, when it comes time to stepping up and helping out they are nowhere to be seen. We have events like Casino Night, the Golf Tournament, Craft Fair and other annual or semi-annual programs. Each one of these events needs volunteers to help run it, solicit sponsors, organize the event’s activities or simply carry tables and chairs from one place to another.
Instead of saying “WE should do this or that,” step up and BE THE WE in that statement. Be the one who will spend some time working at the Post to help manage its daily operations. Work at one of the events so that, together as a team, we keep moving forward. And we ARE a team. A team of WE’s who are all members of our Post, all veterans or family of veterans who have served this Nation. Now, it’s time to serve the Post and BE THE WE.
